Another tsunami benefit fundraiser was recently brought to my attention by our good friend Sli Dawg. It turns out that Sli, Brandy Faber, Shalen Stewart and Jonathan Thomas, in conjuction with the Ocean Avenue Brewery in Laguna Beach, will be holding a silent art auction on Febuary 10th starting at 6:30pm. Rumor has it that there will be tons of great Read more
Ocean Avenue Brewery serves it right
When my friend and I arrived at the Ocean Avenue on Saturday night the dining room was crowded and buzzing with conservation. Bold imaged artwork hung from the walls and colorful fabrics were draped from the ceiling, creating an intimate atmosphere in the small space. It was loud inside, so despite the pouring rain we opted for seating on the covered patio. Out of the rain and with the heat lamps blazing, it was just the perfect temperature. Read more

Ocean Avenue 10 Year Anniversary Bash
What started out as a fine, casual, mostly Italian wine and beer restaurant/bar hangout for Lagunatics 10 years ago has evolved into one of the finest and funniest nightclubs around. It has become a melting pot of friends and family, socialites and bar flies, stlyle banditos and surf/skate and snowboard stars, artists and musicians, wall flowers and humble bees, crazy cooter-pocket lurkers. Throw in a couple metro-sexuals and a few homosexuals to round out a typical night or weekend at the Ocean Avenue Brewery. With a raging Tuesday 80′s Night going on strong for two years now, a supersonic line up of bands mixed into the week, thumping DJs on the weekends and new chic artwork displayed every month, the good times never stop….Oh and don’t forget about the epic international grinds to munch on! Wednesday night at the Ocean Avenue Brewery in Laguna is something special.
A month ago, this relatively small nightspot was pretty much empty on Wednesday nights. Then came a band called Just Jinger. Read more
We know 80’s night at Ocean Avenue Brewery in Laguna Beach is your favorite Tuesday night party spot, “cause it’s Happy’s favorite Tuesday night party spot also. Where else can you live the Glamorous Life mid-week when you’re Hungry Like the Wolf?
I guess that’s why DJ Chrizzler has been the Undercover of the Night and has had the Brewery dance floor bumping for two years straight now. Read more
Dr. Jonathan of Laguna’s Ocean Avenue Brewery had his psychedelic grunge photos displayed at the prestigious William Blake Gallery in Laguna on March 7th. The photos were surreal and mostly taken of his young daughter Alegra in an almost Cobain-esque “Lithium” grunge fashion. Visit Dr. Jonathan on Tuesday’s ‘80s nights, but watch out for his free shots – they may taste good, but it might be wise to feed it to your date or somebody you like.
Behind the lens or not, the picture of his life has developed well. With his first exhibition set to open at Peter Blake Gallery Saturday, Jonathan Thomas is enjoying the view.
Thomas, who has owned Ocean Avenue Brewing Company with his wife, Maria, for the past 10 years, has taken his life in a full circle.
He said the photography came before the brewery when he attended the Brooks Institute and studied the art in 1986. Read more
He’d prefer to surf or travel and optimally a combination of the two, but the trips he has taken these past few months are to the doctor and mainly for dialysis. At age 26, Dan Stafford is looking to change that—a kidney transplant is the answer.
The Big Draw
Every night draws a crowd to the Ocean Brewing Company. It’s one of the hottest spots in Laguna Beach for locals and people in Orange County. In fact, it’s the place most often suggested to residents looking to check out good music, atmosphere and people. Read more
If not for the gleaming copper tanks crammed behind the bar, you might never guess that Ocean Avenue Brewery is, in fact, a brewery. Brewmaster and co-owner John Thomas, a California boy, brews rich lagers and deep porters that are every bit as complex as a Napa Chardonnay. But it’s his wife and co-owner, Maria, with her Italian heritage, who sets the tone at this upscale brew pub (tavola would be a better word). It’s one of two such pubs to open in Laguna Beach since January, making 1995 a good year for beer. Read more
The logical place to begin a review of Ocean Avenue Brewery is with the beer. But first let me rave about the panini. I like best the variation with grilled eggplant, sweet roasted red pepper, and Emmenthal cheese on its fabulous chewy bread. Then there is the grilled chicken panino mounded with mixed baby lettuces that give the sandwich snap and crunch…well, please don’t make me choose. Read more
